Le Petit Parisien's Downtown location is conveniently located near Astor Place, and sits in a brownstone that was built in 1900. Before we took over the space, there was a jewelry store on the ground floor, which explains why our windows are very, very secure. To reflect on Le Petit Parisien’s past as a widely-circulated newspaper in France, we decided to use original newspapers on our walls. Once you visit us, you’ll be able to read the news people were reading 100 years ago.

Le Petit Parisien, despite its name, was circulated across France, and was the first paper to sell over a million copies in one day, launching French journalism into a mass medium. Le Petit Parisien offered sensationalized news rather than relying on political propaganda which enabled it to avoid the tax held on most political newspapers at the time. All copies of Le Petit Parisien can be found at the National Library of France… and a few of them at 32 East 7th Street!
